Summary:
The Simulation Specialist role is responsible for accurately replicating realistic, highly complex clinical scenarios using sophisticated, high-and-low fidelity simulation equipment and software.

  • Manages the operation of simulation equipment during simulation events.
  • Troubleshoots simulator software and hardware problems. Functions as the primary technical liaison with the simulator manufacturers.
  • Monitors simulation equipment safety, performance testing, and ensures proper certification.
  • Assesses the operational uses and limits of the human patient simulator(s), Standardized Patients and associated equipment, and makes recommendations for enhancements, upgrades, and new equipment.
  • Maintains and organizes appropriate inventories for all medical pharmacological, and simulation supplies.
  • Coordinates with the scenario development staff to identify the required supplies. Purchases supplies with sufficient lead time to guarantee delivery in time for scenario
  • Interfaces with clinical professionals within and outside of MaineHealth (physicians/advanced practice practitioners, nurses, residents, fellows, and other allied health professionals) and demonstrates a sound working knowledge of the clinical experience.
  • Provides technical support and preparation of materials and equipment for teaching, research or demonstrations within the simulation center.
  • Provides orientation of faculty, medical students, nurses, residents, and other allied health professionals to principles of simulation training and debriefing techniques and provides faculty with related literature.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1. Education: Associate's Degree or related education preferred.

2. License/Certifications: N/A

3. Experience: Five years in direct patient care preferred, with preference for experience with sophisticated physiologic monitoring devices or five years of simulation experience.
