The Campus Safety & Security Supervisor must demonstrate integrity, objectivity, and professionalism. Supervisors are assigned to shifts and are responsible for managing shift operations and all direct reports. They must implement policies and procedures, conduct investigations, and resolve security issues. Additionally, supervisors act as liaisons with other university departments and outside agencies when the Associate Director or Assistant Director is absent. They are also responsible for conducting performance evaluations, establishing goals, and professional development plans for their direct reports. This role requires moderate independence, authority, and demands significant time and effort. Supervisors may need to work outside their normal schedule and be available even when off-duty. While a large portion of their shift is spent in the field, supervisors must also complete administrative tasks. Effective time management and prioritization skills are essential to fulfill all the responsibilities of this position.

Qualifications

High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math

Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

No felony convictions, must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Valid Arizona Driver's license, Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):

  • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
  • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year

A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.

AZ DPS unarmed and armed guard cards.

CPR/AED

Within one year of becoming a supervisor:

  • IS - 300 Intermediate Incident Command Systems
  • Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
  • Clery Center Virtual Clery Act Training (VCATS)
  • AZ DPS General Instructor Registration
  • CRASE Instructor

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

Individual must have excellent verbal communication abilities. The position requires the ability to write legibly, speak clearly, and manage multiple and sometimes stressful tasks (involving radio, phone, and personal communications) at the same time. At least three years' experience in law enforcement, corrections, military, or similar role in security.

Must pass annual department physical fitness assessment and firearms qualification standards.

Within six months of becoming a supervisor:

  • Dispatch functions training resulting in a comprehensive understanding of dispatch capability and the ability to work as a dispatcher if needed.
